Children and families need support. You can help them by getting trained and becoming a tutor or sponsoring a child to be tutored.
WSR students are 2nd and 3rd graders who are struggling to read, spell and write well despite going to school and having parent support.
WSR families want to help their child to develop their skills. They come to parent conferences. They know their child needs something more or different but can't put their finger on what it is. They are eager to have support, to show up each week to tutoring WITH their child and to do the fun activities their tutor will give them to do between sessions. WSR families are ones who want private tutoring from a trained reading interventionist but it's not in their budget. These are families who may qualify for social support services or just be making ends meet.
WSR tutors are certified Reading Interventionists. They have completed a 30-hour Brain Friendly Reading training course, an oral and written assessment and a practice teaching period.
WSR mentors are available for support and all trainees have access to a full battery of on-going professional development resources.
Quality tutoring is important to us.
The goal of tutoring is to transform the educational experience of the child in collaboration with the parents or caregivers.
