When volunteering for We Shall Read you play an essential role in helping children develop critical reading skills. By participating in community events or working with individual non-profits, you’ll provide one-on-one or group support to children and families as they engage in educational games designed to improve their reading, spelling, and writing abilities.

Michigan is 43rd out of 50 in reading scores nationally. When you volunteer with WSR, you’ll provide parents and other adults tools they can use to help children, teens and adults grow their reading skills regardless of their ability or background (including English language learners).

No experience is necessary! We will provide all the training and support needed for your role. You’ll learn skills you can use with the children in your life.
Yes, volunteers must be 18 or older. There are also opportunities for younger volunteers with parental consent.
On-going training is available through We Shall Read mentors. Lots of additional training can be suggested asynchronously or live -- whatever you prefer to help you help more children.
Yes, we allow groups and teams to volunteer. Please complete the volunteer form on behalf of your organization or tea.m. Include the request to work as a group/team there.
